Who will win at this Weekend's Mavericks Awards?

The best weekend of the year rolls on with the return of the greatest party in Half Moon Bay - the end of year Mavericks Surf Awards tomorrow night at the San Benito House in Half Moon Bay, CA.

The coolest wave in NorCal saw some outstanding swells going back all the way to end of September, with action every month in between and one of the most epic days in years just after Christmas.

For those living under a rock, this is what some of the action looks like on a consistent basis down in HMB:

Amongst a million other sweet clips...

Earlier this week the Mavs team announced nominees for men's and women's in biggest wave, ride of the year, and performer of the year. It's tough to speculate on the first two, but for performer the year - if I'm a betting man - ya gotta like Hunter Murison and Bianca Valenti.

Bianca is an easy choice for the women's division - up there with the greatest women's big wave surfers of all time, her body of work in NorCal surf is undeniable. Men's is much more competitive - based on very little evidence and a whole lot of feel, I've just gotta go with the quiet assassin in Hunter. Dude reminds me of a blue collar surfer - not posting a lot on social, not looking for all the attention, just wanting to get out and take care of his damn business out there on the waves. Rumors that he was also in close contention last year and was narrowly beaten out by Greg Long, so that body of work going back years does not go unnoticed (I would imagine, but I am not a voter/have not spoken to Cuvelier or anybody else on this beforehand - just a fan who loves to speculate.)

For all the incredible waves seen online and in person, the best has not even been introduced yet! That's what tomorrow night is for - and I'm not sure every casual fan necessarily understands that (I know I didn't until JSandy told me they weren't including everything beforehand). Excited to see what legendary videographers and editors like our guy Euan Rannachan (@euanart) and the young legend JSandy (@Jsandycam) put together for the people to witness.

We'll be down there doing some interviews with the surfers like we did last year - should be a fun one, I even bought a ticket because I am a man of the people and love supporting the cause. See you tomorrow night! No rain allowed...
