Was having a conversation with Danny Dials last night, and while discussing the various Discord usernames that Young Emilio has had over the past year or so, it made me think about how much I miss our guy. He’s a busy man- he loves shopping, watching his dogs, promoting his film organization, and practicing his faith in God. We only see him every once in a blue moon, which makes his appearances much more appreciated. Some have said he’s kind of like batman- when you need him the most, he will be there and will save the day. So out of pure appreciation for this guy, here is a compilation of my top 5 Young Emilio moments (from 2022-2023).
Number 5: Emilio Coming in Late to Work
Emilio runs on Young Emilio time, and at this point we all know how to compensate for his ETA to events and other stuff. However, there was this one particular time when we were all meeting at HQ in the afternoon, and he came in like a whole hour or two later than he had specified (what a G).. That wasn’t even the most electric part. Apparently he had “texted me” that he was running super late. But when he pulled out his phone to show us that he “texted me,” for some reason there were no outgoing messages that he sent to me (or Dan) regarding his tardiness - which probably explains why I never received a message from him that he was going to be late. This, in turn, earned Young Emilio another nickname- the FIbber. Number 4: Emilio Stealing the Show at the OneTake Cup
There were plenty of raw skaters going hard in the paint at the OneTake Cup, OneTake Media’s very first skateboarding competition. But in my opinion, Emilio was the one that stole the show that day. While I was doing a whole lot of nothing (literally- I was just standing around circle jerking with the GoPro in one hand), our guy Young Emilio was running around SOMA skatepark filming the runs of the skaters. I’ve never seen him hustle so much, but he was definitely carrying the boats that day- credit to him. Number 3: Emilio Hits the Town with the Boys
It’s already a rare occurrence to see Young Emilio in general, so when he pops out for our monthly company outing, you know that the stars must have aligned. Emilio came out for our March company outing, which doubled as my birthday celebration weekend. There were a lot of electric moments from that night, but my favorite had to be when Emilio went head to head in a beer chug with Danny Dials (he was super close, but Dan ended up taking the win). I believe that same night, Emilio and I also had a griddy-off. Who do you think hit the better griddy? Of course- it was Young Emilio. Number 2: Emilio at Dog Surf
No one loves surfing dogs more than Young Emilio, and it definitely showed in his performance from early August, at the Dog Surf World Championship. Emilio was getting down to business, capturing a nice third person angle of surfing dogs. He wasn’t afraid of getting wet this time around either- credit to him. But this had to be one of my top Young Emilio moments because we were both dialed in as the OTM film crew, doing our jobs, and benefitting the team as a whole (with Dan’s leadership). Ultimately, this is why I feel like our Dog Surf video, which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmsm7Xqzz3g&t=16s, is one of my favorite productions.
Number 1: Emilio’s Appearance in our Nooner’s Commercial
Had to save the best for last here. Back in March, we filmed a commercial as an entry for Bartstool’s Nooners Competition. The idea was to create something original and vivacious - two things that I think we executed well. Once again, Emilio stole the spotlight. Young Emilio’s “TEQUILA” will forever be my favorite part in that commercial, and quite possibly my favorite moment of him in general.
