Tomorrow in Oakland, CA independent 2024 presidential candidate Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy Jr. will be making his vice presidential nominee selection in front of his supporters and local/national media. We've heard a lot of buzz in recent weeks, let's break down the top five potential candidates we may be seeing tomorrow afternoon:
5) Andrew Yang
Could this be the long waited return of the Yang Gang? Andrew has been out of the public eye (to be that means he has not been on Bill Maher in 18 months or so, I'm sure he's doing something cool), but the roots he built from 2018-2020 are still there amongst his supporters. I could see him coming out of the woodwork to support a third party candidate - and even join the ticket! After endorsing democrat Dean Phillips on his short lived campaign, I have not heard much from Andrew on where he will be casting his vote in '24. He's all about creative solutions, and third party is something I believe he has spoken on before, he could be the one we see tomorrow in Oakland!
4) Jesse Ventura
I don't know much about this one here... but I know he's a big name and was governor of Minnesota for a while as a third party candidate in the Reform Party, and was floated as a potential candidate when the news broke about this announcement a few weeks back. Not my first choice if I'm advising RFK but could be cool, Danny Dials just gotta learn a bit more.
3) Tulsi Gabbard
Independent voice is indeed a focus for anyone running as a non Republican or Democrat in a general election, and since her own presidential run in 2020 as well as unwavering support of then very anti-establishment figure Bernie Sanders in the run up to the 2016 election, Tulsi definitely fits the bill for that voice. Leaving the democratic party and losing her seat in the Hawaii Congress after getting essentially blackballed politically (likely because of how badly she went at Kamala Harris on the debate stage), I am confident she has been staying busy catching waves and serving her country out in Hawaii, but someone with her political talent, charisma, and composure will no doubt be making a big move at some point in the next few years. Could it be running with RFK? Could it be taking down the establishment democrats that ran her out of town a few years back by syphoning off enough votes in specific districts in the midwest, Georgia, and Arizona to allow the Donald back into the white house? I don't see Tulsi as one for revenge, but I could see that as a fun appeal to self-interest the RFK camp might have used to sell her on running. Tulsi's foreign policy acumen could mesh well with RFK's focus on domestic issues as well, likely the best mix of potential candidates on that practical front.
2) Conor Kennedy
Go with the elusive son - could be a veteran move (eye emoji). Conor had a brief flame with the world's biggest pop star, and this would indeed rally the troops - no such thing as bad publicity, and the pick could very much galvanize some of the anti T-Swift contingent that has to be laying dormant somewhere across these United States. Would it be enough to achieve the proper distribution of votes across counties to hit that magical 270 electoral votes come November 5th? Only one way to find out...
Side note: if you are a Kennedy and don't have electric hair/lettuce are you immediately excommunicated from the family/not allowed at Hyannisport in the summers? A valid question I may just have to ask RFK...
1) Aaron Rodgers
If it's not Aaron tomorrow, it's going to be a huge let down. The event is taking place in northern California, Rodgers is from Chico, there's been so much chatter, kennedyrodgers.com was registered to GoDaddy a few weeks back - it's just a match made in internet heaven. Rodgers burgeoning political career comes off the back of his popular arguments against much of the way the COVID pandemic was legislated, from small business shutdowns nationwide to the vaccine mandate discussions of 2021, and a shift in health and wellness to a more libertarian, self governance/freedom issue in recent years. These guys will run on health, being cool, living a cool lifestyle, being anti-establishment, being on the internet, not being mainstream, going on podcasts, casting doubt and 'asking a lot of questions', and also most importantly: being cool. And in 2024 - that plays! Especially in a bit of a race to the bottom election cycle (kinda sad we have essentially no primary season this time around) where we're seeing swaths of dejected or uninspired voters.
Biden can run well on numbers, but his messaging/marketing is poor at best, and The Donald, with all of his electricity, still comes with a lot of baggage. RFK and ACR?! Talk about a TOUCHDOWN! The selection may not be the best idea for winning the midwest/rust belt since he routinely torched the good, simple people of Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, left Wisconsin for New York, and defeated Pittsburgh in his one Super Bowl, but for the drama - this is indeed the one and only selection needed FOR THE PEOPLE. We'll see tomorrow in Oakland - though if folks begin to look at Rodgers record in conference title games and see his only win is against Caleb Hanie, that may be difficult to come back from.
P.S. Watch it be our guy David Peterson? How incredible would that be? Especially after his impressive CA Senate campaign wrapped earlier this month, the man wants to get to work!
