The most hopeful time in all of sports came and went this past weekend in Detroit, MI as they played host to almost 800,000 (wild number) fans at the 2024 The NFL Draft came. Some teams left with their quarterback of the future (see New England), some teams left with a dismayed quarterback of the present (see Atlanta) but through all this noise, one man stood above the rest as he delved into a new career path: Bill Belichick.
Bill was a part of the Pat McAfee draft show on Thursday night, and brought the energy right off the bat:
What do we see here? We see six professional gentlemen - and one of them has a laptop doing his research and ready to drop some knowledge bombs at any moment's notice.
What else did we notice off the bat? The man had a little big of extra strength upstairs on that noggin to support all of the brain function happening at any given point in time:
Your boy was out here breaking down film on top prospects...
And telling awesome trade stories from yesteryear:
And this was the same night the team that dogged him in the offseason almost had their general manager fired on the spot after taking a quarterback at #8 overall - while signing another QB to $140 million in the offseason. WILD move:
This was a great preamble for what this Belichick media season will look like - and now we learn he will be on ESPN with McAfee on Mondays, and likely recurring on the Manning for Monday Night Football. At this point, do we see this emmy award winning broadcaster/analyst/journalist on social media?! Many thought TB12 would never get on there - until he did and dropped Tom vs. Time on Facebook Watch in early 2018. Sneaky the beginning of the end of the Patriots Dynasty brought to us by Gotham Chopra but I digress...
This is all exciting stuff for fans of football, though two things suck:
1) ESPN is buddy-buddy with Roger Goodell, the man who has tried to vanquish Belichick and the Patriots seemingly more times than a simple, mortal fan like myself can count. And now, as fate would have it, they are having public conversations and acting like old pals on camera as if nothing ever happened. Part of me is glad Bill has moved on with his 3 extra rings after DeflateGate, but part of me always wishes the sithlord himself to never forgive those who wronged him...
2) How does Bill not sign with Fox when they already have Gronk, Edelman, and now TB12 on their analyst roster? How awesome would that be to have 'GOAT Talk' as a weekly segment between Bill and Tom before the game of the week on Sundays? How do Fox executives not see the vision there? Feels like a huge fumbled opportunity... and not to mention now that Belichick likely can't even go on Edelman's podcast in the near term because they are on separate networks. This will go down as a mystery.
Way to dominate, Coach Belichick - excited to hear his roast this weekend of TB12 and I hope you do not attend the Tom Brady retirement ceremony in Foxboro this June after Kraft Productions tried to smear you.
