Team Diaz throws down Stockton Style: Brawl Erupts at Diaz-Masvidal Conference

Social media was going wild yesterday, after this viral clip of a fight between members of Team Diaz and Masvidal’s crew broke out at a press conference in Anaheim. I know that I had mentioned in my last Nate Diaz blog that the promotional tour for the Diaz-Masvidal fight was already wrapping up. However since the fight was pushed to July 6, press conferences are still taking place.

As seen in the video above, the scuffle pretty much started right after Diaz made his exit from the stage, which would then conclude the conference. Right at that moment, the MC had requested one more face off between Diaz and Masvidal in front of the stage. Crews from both sides gathered in this area, facing each other squarely. You can’t really hear anything from this angle, but I assume there was a whole lot of shit talking going on and not too long after, the fists started flying.

The confrontation lasted about a minute before it was completely broken up. But it was absolute chaos and the spectators loved it. Almost everyone there had pulled their phone to record. Some press members were even able to get close and snap some pics of the action. This being said, here’s a better, closer angle, that I could find (from ESPN).

Here we can see everything point blank, literally seconds before going down. If you look closely, you can clearly see that Masvidal (in the yellow shirt) initiated the brawl after smacking the hand of one of Diaz’s boys (in the black shirt). The same guy from Diaz’s crew follows up with some throws at Masvidal (can’t tell if they landed), but is shortly stopped by other members of Masvidal’s crew, who were standing in front of him. Another dude on Masvidal’s side (wearing a burgundy shirt), tries to stop the altercation, but is then clocked clean in the face. This is when all hell breaks loose and everyone from both sides starts jumping in. Kind of hard to make out in the video, but it looked like the dudes from Masvidal’s side were getting absolutely rushed. Team Diaz served them up pretty well, Stockton style. Might this foreshadow the results of July 6? TBD.

I’m kinda glad the fight was pushed another month out. For one thing it gives everyone a chance to gradually adjust to their summer mode- in Stockton, this means that everyone can prepare more for their kickbacks. And secondly, it had allowed the tension to build up significantly. I mean, the official announcement was made in February, literally like 4 months ago- so I’m thinking these extra four weeks will help sell the fight some more.

I asked some Stockton locals (aka my buddies) what they thought of the brawl, to which many of them replied “Team Diaz all day” or “they [Masvidal’s crew] got fucked up pretty bad.” Still contemplating where I’ll be viewing this fight, but I will most likely be in the front yard of a neighbors house sipping a Modelo, or at the local Buffalo Wild Wings for PPV.

God Bless the 209,

Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
