Sisay Lemma and Hellen Obiri Win the Boston Marathon, The Brits Lose in Lexington, Today is a Good Day in the Commonwealth

Living in California is great - natural beauty, beach, mountains, art, the opportunity to create a sales empire that never really came to fruition and then parlay that into a media empire that isn't really coming to fruition but we are still bloggin' our faces off - it's a beautiful thing. But there are indeed a few days a year that I miss being back in Massachusetts, and while I don't consider myself a very sentimental person, today is indeed one of them.

Patriot's Day, or Marathon Monday as more colloquially known, is a staple of the culture in Boston and the surrounding area, from Hopkinton at the starting line of the marathon through all of route 9 up until the runners hit that finish line on Boylston Street. I know it's 415 day in San Francisco, and I do love this city, but today is about Boston, and from the looks online it did not disappoint:

The boys got going early up in Lexington with a little Revolutionary War re-enactment - for those philistines that don't know, the Battle of Lexington and Concord back in 1775 (had to check the dates) was essentially the first real battle of the Revolutionary War, after tensions had been broiling for years between the red coats and the rebels after the Boston Massacre in 1770 and the Boston Tea Party in 1773, 'taxation without representation', all that electric stuff, that led to the signing of the Declaration of Independence a year after this battle. Doubt the folks are learning that actual history anymore out here in California while San Francisco towns are implementing woke kindergarten (luckily this contract got terminated down in Fremont) but that's a topic for a different day, and likely not as widespread as the internet may make it seem (still a weird problem, that will likely get the Donald re-elected but that's a topic for a different day). As our former governor Deval Patrick once stated, "Massachusetts invented America." I hope we can remember that today - still electric.

Next up we got another great tradition which is the 10:00 AM ball game at Fenway - Gronk led it off with a first pitch spike, pretty funny - almost as good as his bunt in 2019 after the Patriots won their 6th Super Bowl. Sox got smacked 6-0 and I could name about 1 player on the roster, but hey go get em out there boys.

Tough to top this all-time moment from my 8th grade science teacher and freshman football coach getting pizza flung at him - Orsillo and Remy's reaction still quite funny.

Weather looked perfect today to run 26.2 miles - credit to the two winners in the men's and women's division - quick reminder on who the marathon GOAT truly is: Robert Cheruiyot.

Look at this man's body of work - 4 Boston marathon titles in 6 years from '03-'08, just awesome stuff.

Happy Marathon Monday indeed. Now if only BC would let the boys party...
