On a picturesque October morning from San Francisco down through Half Moon Bay, the '23-24 Mavericks winter season officially kicked off after a strong WNW swell hit the SF Bay Area Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. We saw standouts in the 30+ foot range, the boys, and a few of the ladies, catching some bombs, with electric coverage from all the heavy hitters in the Mavericks game...
We're talkin' Euan Rannachan, Tom Hoppa, Mavericks Awards founder Chris Cuvelier, Curt Myers and the boys from Powerline Productions (whom I am friends with on Linkedin) even OTM contributor and head of surf content young JSandy was in on the action. Check it out!

The season is off to a hot start, and this winter very well could be one for the books - but there was one person missing from the day... one wannabe local, who is technically neighbors with blue blood JSandy, but was not at the Thursday wave party. One person so dedicated to the NorCal surf scene, a former kook until he blew out his knee and now simply wants to tell the stories of many of his former and potentially future surf compatriots until he is physically able to get back on the big waves like at Mavs - and that person... is me.
Would I add much to the jetski/boat crew? Probably not a ton... I could do some commentary, though it's a bit heavy out there literally and figuratively... I could do some capital J journalism like I am now, but with more of a firsthand approach including some filming. Hell, I may just have to get out there and scout for my own surf missions upcoming - knee is feeling better entering year 3 of complete ACL reconstruction, rumors I will be making it out on the next big day...
Perhaps my invite got lost because I didn't go to Pumpkin Festival... or because we didn't film the Mavs Awards like we did last year. Not sure what it was... I guess we can say young JSandy went down repping OTM - though there are rumors that his internal rival Producer Reese went about calling the local truancy officer since he is known to sabotage his competition in a ruthless manner - we do sponsor his brother since Producer Reese gave him 5 stickers that time and we are planning a feature film with him as the main character, credit to us.
So we'll see how the rest of this season turns out - I believe with el nino (not sure how to do an accent/tilde on the blog, what are we doing Ezy?), all of the great videography, and popularity increase of the break, this is going to be one of the great seasons we have seen. Perhaps I'll get out for a day or two as well - I hereby decry a motion to use all company funds moving forward towards purchasing a company jetski, payroll will be put on hold!
