An Electric Boys Weekend with Producer Reese and Tony Bautista

Multiplayer fortnight, Wild Cherry Caprisuns on deck, a game of Nightcrawlers... what could be more electric than a weekend filled with these things? Me and TB2 (Dan's nickname for Tony) didn't really partake in any of these activities... nor did we have any Caprisuns. However, we still had a banger weekend out in the Central Valley. I was out in SF during the last Thursday of May, making my weekly appearance at OneTake Media headquarters (helping film content with the boys, editing, being electric, doing stuff!). That same day, me and TB2 agreed on the idea to spend the weekend at my house over in Stockton, since I was pretty much going to have the house to myself for those few days anyway. So I stop at Tony's house in San Bruno, on the way back to Stockton. He had apparently not charged his new Tesla all day, which meant we had to hang out in his hype basement man cave/cellar for a few hours (while he charged his car). We ended up getting on the road around midnight, taking 2 separate cars, just crushing 580 all the way to the Central Valley. We get to my place around 2 in the morning, since there was bottleneck traffic during the last stretch of the journey. The following morning, the boys weekend officially begins...

So it's the last Friday of May, and TB2 and I kick off the day by doing some authentic Central Valley shit. At the request of my cousin, we were to help her move 40 bags of wood mulch into her backyard. We got an early start to the day and had to make two trips to Home Depot, since my truck could only haul 20 bags at a time. To my surprise, TB2 didn't mind getting his hands a little dirty, rolling up his sleeves, and acting like proper Central Valley folk. We were able to wrap up the delivery job within 2 hours, finishing right around noon.

Almost every single time Tony Bautista comes out to Stockton, he always asks to eat out at 2 different restaurants (because he's never been to them). They are: Raising Canes and Applebees. Me personally, I wasn't really in the mood for either of those spots at the time, but since it was an electric boys weekend, we went ahead and gave Canes a shot (I've actually never been to that place either, up until this point). I'll be honest, I thought it was a bit over hyped. Raising Canes is known for their chicken tenders, but to me they were definitely too salty. I ended up feeling very dehydrated and lethargic after eating. And I think Tony was also in the same boat.

It was gonna be a big night for the boys, so we headed back to the house and rested up a little. The sun goes down and we start making our way to Sacramento. Hate to shit on my town like this, but Stockton's nightlife is basically non-existent, which is why we headed north for the evening (as most people do). The plan was to hit the bars up in Sac, but not immediately when we got there. So while cruising around Downtown Sac, in no rush whatsoever, we stumbled upon Sacramento's "Concerts on the Park." Had no idea this was a thing, but it was hype. Apparently, every Friday during the months of June and July (I think), the city hosts a free concert at Cesar Chavez park. The turn out is pretty sufficient, energy is palpable. They serve beer, have local vendors there, and provide a nice line up of entertainment. Me and Tony were able to catch the last band play, Rain City Drive... they were pretty electric.

We wrapped up the night hanging out at the bars on K Street, Sacramento's equivalent of the Marina district. Compared to the bars in SF, the bars in Sac are interesting, to say the least. They are strict about a lot of things, like dress code, but they are also lax about a lot of things, such as bringing your own drinks into the venue (at least in my experience).

Anyways, the thing that I enjoy the most about nightlife in the Central Valley is probably the evening weather. It stays warm at night during the summer, so you can comfortably bar hop without shivering and rushing to the next spot. Not saying these hot nights don't happen in SF, but it's definitely more rare there. Needless to say, Tony and I put K Street in our back pocket, and that concludes our boys weekend. TI you missed out brother, next time I suppose...
