Producer Reese here, giving the people an official recap of my weekend rave up in Sacramento. This was quite possibly one of the funnest circle jerk weekends I’ve had to date. For those who are not familiar with a rave, it’s basically a giant excuse to do drugs and get super faded, all while enjoying the sensation of loud music, pyrotechnics, and a laser show. For those who don’t know what a circle jerk weekend is, it is a weekend where the boys of OTM (me specifically) take a couple of days off from cooking up reels/hitting the blog, in order to do nothing productive.
About 3 months ago, I was out partying at the beach with my cousin and all of his friends at a mid-summer bonfire. Long story short, this group is very into the rave scene and invited me out with them to see SLANDER - an American DJ duo known for their subgenre of electronic music known as “heaven trap” - in late October. My cousin even offered to buy me my ticket. Fast forward to this past weekend, and I was able to experience my very first rave.
The event took place at Sacramento’s Cal Expo, and ran from 5pm to 11pm. My cousin and I sent it up there and got to the parking lot within the expo around a quarter to 5. We posted up in one area of the lot, where everyone in our group was to meet. And boy, we had a shitload of people in our group - over 100 members easy. In the meantime, while we waited for the rest of us to show up, the entire group (including myself) participated in a pretty lit pre game. It would have been a rookie move to get in line this early, I will definitely keep this in mind for next time. Anyway, back to the pre game - Henny shots on rotation, Twisted Teas and Seltzers on deck, music bumping from the cars. Most of us were pretty sauced within the first 45 minutes of being there. I don’t even remember how long we were in that lot before entering the expo.

Fast forward an X amount of minutes (or hours), and we get in line - anticipation growing, especially with the music you can hear coming from inside. I’m pretty sure it was already dark by then, so you could also see the reflection of the lasers/lights in the sky from the vantage point of the line. So our group finally gets in the venue and we all lose each other immediately (somehow). I managed to stick with my cousin and for the first hour or so we were just walking around the venue checking it out. It was an outdoor area, as I mentioned before, on a large field surrounded by bleachers. The stage was decently big, comparable to DJ Diesel’s stage at OSL 23’. Not many people took to the bleachers, instead everyone was crowding the area on the field right in front of the stage (as expected). I couldn’t give an exact number, but it felt like there was a good amount of spectators there - somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 people.
Like I said, our group was pretty big.
My cousin and I eventually found the rest of the group in the middle of the crowd, and from there it was a purely ecstatic experience. The show was HYPE. I’d never listened to Slander before this event, but they definitely kept the energy of the crowd up with their music. The high tempo music and its beat drops, paired with all the fireworks and coordinated lasers, made for a euphoric sensation like no other. It’s a bit hard to describe through text, it’s kind of something you gotta see in person at least once in your life. The crowd was chaotic, with everyone jumping on beat, people dropping Molly in the crowd, and screaming to the top of their lungs. Every second of it was enjoyable.
All in all, would I go back to another rave? - probably yes. I had a great time. The only thing I would make a complaint about would be the weather. It was hella cold, my balls were freezing, especially towards the end. Jumping around amongst the crowd will only keep your body warm for so long. So as you might expect, everyone was rushing back to the warmth of their cars as soon as the event ended. This being said, Summer 2024 may be the return of rave season for Producer Reese… rumors.
